Avalanche
The reality is sometimes you need a pickup to handle major loads. Other times you need an SUV to chauffeur about your friends and family. How do you choose between them? Chevy doesn’t think you should have to. That’s why it invented the two-in-one Avalanche. It lets you have it both ways. This transformation is made possible by something called a MidgateTM that’s exclusive to GM. In its upright position, it forms the rear wall of the SUV-style cabin that seats up to six in real comfort. Or you can lower the Midgate to expand the pickup box to eight feet in length with payloads that top out above 600 kg (1322 lb.). Even better, Avalanche makes this transition in under a minute with no tools required.
Avalanche’s engine also performs double duty. The standard 320 horsepower Vortec 5.3L V8 operates on eight cylinders when full power is required, but shuts down four cylinders when they aren’t needed.
This Active Fuel Management® technology results in a real boost in fuel efficiency, using just 9.6 L/100 km on the highway. While Avalanche is sometimes a pickup and sometimes an SUV, what’s just as important is that it’s always a rugged and dependable Chevy truck. The 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche.
